Join Vice Admiral Herm Shelanski, USN (Ret.), for a powerful firsthand account of his recent journey to the military cemeteries of France, where he witnessed the sacred work of Operation Benjamin and Operation Levi.
Operation Benjamin is dedicated to identifying Jewish American service members from World War I and World War II who were mistakenly buried beneath Latin Crosses, replacing their markers with the Star of David to ensure their faith, identity, and ultimate sacrifice are accurately honored. Its German counterpart, Operation Levi, works hand-in-hand with the German War Graves Commission to restore the Star of David to the graves of German Jewish soldiers from WWI.
During his recent visit to Verdun, Vice Admiral Shelanski participated in deeply moving ceremonies that corrected more than a century of history, reunited descendants spanning from Israel to America, and highlighted the enduring, universal importance of remembrance (Chesed shel Emet).
Come learn how these organizations are preserving the legacy of Jewish heroes who gave their lives in service to their countries, restoring their rightful place in history, and ensuring future generations remember their sacrifice.
